WHY LOKTA PAPER?
Praised for its durability and resistance to tearing, damage from humidity, mildew and insects. It is the preferred paper for any official or legal records, wrapping paper to retain the potency of incense, spices and medicine as well as sacred religious scriptures.

ECO-FRIENDLY PAPER PRODUCTION
Lokta paper is a non-wood forest product (NWFP) handmade, using zero electricity from the fibrous inner bark of high elevation evergreen shrubs primarily from two species of the Daphne. An indigenous plant to Nepal known collectively as Lokta bushes.
Harvesting the fibres
The bark of lokta bushes is harvested by hand so as not to destroy the plants ability to reproduce.
Processing the Pulp
The inner bark is boiled to soften, washed and cooked again before beaten and emulsified.
Producing the Paper
The prepared pulp is poured over cotten mesh to dry before being peeled and manufactured.
HISTORY OF NEPALI LOKTA PAPER
Despite the major influx of handmade paper production in recent years, large scale lokta resources remain untapped. Nonetheless, handmade lokta paper products continue to offer considerable economic opportunities for Nepalese, especiallly women living in rural communities due to the high-quality niche market potential that is available.
