The production of the Lokta Paper declined first in the 1930 due to the introduction of paper craft imports from Tibet and and continued to do so during the 60’s due to the accessibility of commercially produced paper from India.
The United Nations Children’s Fund and the Agricultural Development Bank of Nepal/Small Farmer Development Program launched the Community Development and Health Project in an attempt to revive the industry and thus bring economic opportunities back to rural Nepal.
Whilst the growth was slow the awareness of lokta paper continues to rise along with trading opportunities and creative uses for this unique and popular product.
